Glencoe is famous for its dramatic landscape, with towering peaks of what appear to be impenetrable rocky buttresses lining both sides of the glen, however, tucked amongst them is Beinn a'Chrulaiste. Standing at a mere 857m/2811ft, Beinn a'Chrulaiste may not be a Munro, or get the footfall like its larger neighbours, but what it lacks in a little height it certainly makes up for in panoramic views, arguably some of the best of any Scottish mountain!
Our walk amongst the giants of Glencoe starts at Altnafeadh, where roadside parking is available. The ascent begins almost immediately with a kilometre or so of relatively steep ground up the western side of the mountain, however, the reward is worth the effort as the views across Glencoe quickly come in to sight above the tree line.
After a few hundred metres of climbing we reach the small shoulder summit of Stob Beinn a'Chrulaiste, at 639m. From here the topography eases as the broad expanse of the upper half of Beinn a'Chrulaiste opens up. This portion of the mountain is much easier going on the legs and gives you more time to enjoy the views as we follow the wide grassy western ridge towards the summit. Dotted with small mountain lochans this is a lovely section of the walk.
Reaching the summit the full panorama of Glencoe and the surrounding landscape is revealed. With the Glencoe Munro's to the South and West, Rannoch Moor & the Blackwater Reservoir to the East and the Marmores & Ben Nevis to the North.
