This course represents the first steps in to the world of mountain navigation. We will take a look at basic map reading skills before moving on to looking at a selection of navigational techniques you may need to explore predominantly pathed regions of our beautiful mountain landscape.
These courses can be run in most locations, however, they are best run on lower mountains and rolling countryside, for example the Pentland or Ochil Hills, where there is a mix of paths and easy to navigate non-pathed areas.
Topics discussed as part of this course:
Although we aim to cover the entire list of topics above, these are completely customisable courses and we are happy to discuss your requirements and wishes and work around them.
For this course we aim to provide custom maps (where possible) to aid your learning. We will bring these with us on the day. Clients are to supply their own compasses (Our recommendation is the 'Expedition 4' or 'Ranger' compass models made by Silva, or equivalent).
