Having grown up in the Yorkshire Dales, I may be a little biased, but I think the Dales are a wonderful place to walk, bike and generally explore. Yes, there are larger mountain ranges, such as those near by in the Lake District, but this is one of the attractions of the Dales, many simply drive through the area to get to other places, never stopping to really appreciate the landscape.
There is an almost infinite number of options for day walks in the Yorkshire Dales for all abilities, from simple afternoon strolls to all day epics such as the Three Peaks Challenge. Below we have a short list of walks around the three peaks area in the western Yorkshire Dales, however, please feel free to Contact Us to discuss any plans you may have and we will do our best to fulfil your requirements. Check out our Komoot Collection for more options in the Yorkshire Dales.

Ingleborough (15km/9.5m)
The mountain of Ingleborough is probably one of the most famous images of the Yorkshire Dales, with its steep sides and table top summit plateau. It is visible as far away as the Lake District and the West Coast on a clear day and stands like a sentry as you enter the Dales from the West. There are various ways up the mountain from all sides, however, one of our favourites is from the picturesque village of Clapham. This route takes in the beautiful Clapham Nature Trail, the dramatic Trough Gill gorge, Gaping Gill cave, the famous Limestone Paving and of course the large summit plateau of Ingleborough itself.
Whernside (19km/12m)
The highest of the famous three peaks of Yorkshire, Whernside stands at 735m above sea level. As with Ingleborough there are various routes to the summit, some of which are VERY well trodden, however, here we offer a much quieter route to the roof of Yorkshire. Starting in the tranquil village of Dent, the route described here may be a few miles longer than many of the other options, but provides peaceful trails and beautiful views across the large glacial valley of Deepdale. The route takes in the historic Flinter Gill and Occupation road as we climb out of the village of Dent, making our way towards Kingsdale and the western ascent of Whernside. From the summit we head North along the broad ridge line of Whernside, past the high tarns and moorlands descending back in to Deepdale before the final couple miles along the lovely River Dee back to Dent.
Settle Loop (16km/10m)
The Settle Loop is a 10 mile scenic walk around the beautiful limestone landscape East of the medieval market town. The walk starts in the old market square and heads uphill through some of the oldest parts of the town before climbing towards the moorland above Settle. Continuing East we pass numerous limestone cliffs and crags exposing the ancient seabed famous in this part of Yorkshire. Eventually we emerge on to the moorland and the views towards Malham Tarn and the rolling hills of the Dales come in to dramatic view. From here we begin to turn back towards Settle and complete the loop. Along the way it is possible to see the entrances to Victoria and Jubilee Caves, along with views towards the Yorkshire Three Peaks and across the Ribble Valley.
